Hilly Fields Parkrun review

Dates visited Jan 1 & Aug 18 2018

Facilities

Pistachios Café is in high demand, with public WCs at the back.

Bag drop?

By railings near race briefing area

Course profile/ features

As you might guess from the name, very hilly-175 feet above sea level.
From the top of hill by the café, the course drops sharply away, all the way down to the lowest part of the park on the East side. After a flat section there’s another hill and after 1 mile the loop goes in a different route to the south east before returning to the flat section
On my most recent visit in August, the course had changed, in this case following the park perimeter by Vicars Hill (summer course?)

Notes

A challenging course, so worth considering for inclusion in your programme if training for a 10k, half or full marathon; or just to test your fitness.
There's a stone circle near the Adelaide Avenue entrance. It's of a more recent vintage than Stonehenge, beinng created for the MIllenium

Catford Parkrun Review

Dates visited 26.5.18, 23.6.18, 28.7.18

Facilities

WC (rather rudimentary in container behind café)
Café
Both near the start

Bag drop?

Yes, under the bandstand

Course profile/features

Undulating, perhaps the toughest section is a testing little slope that takes you up to the top of the park near the bandstand.
I got diifferent total elevation readings on my Garmin each time ranging from 68 to 94 ft.
Terrain a mix of tarmac, grass & some trail

Notes

A pretty venue with some good views over South London.
Loads of fitness equipment dotted all over the park (monkey bars etc) so if you have energy spare after your run you can attempt a few pull-ups
Being one of the newer venues, fields are on the smaller side: 137, 192 & 123 runners on my three visits.

Foots Cray Meadows Parkrun Review

Date of visit 4.8.18

Facilities

Very nice WCs & café in Kelsey's farm shop, which offers the highest quality grub, as well as a 10% discount to parkrunners. I went for the scones as a post-race treat. The farm groceries also highly recommended.

Bikes can be locked to the playground railings near the start.

Bag drop?

yes, under the table by start/finish

Course profile/features

Undulating, bumpy & a few potholes.
Terrain a mix of grass, trail & some tarmac.
When I visited, there were parts of the course where the route wasn't entirely clear so I was racing to keep the runner ahead in sight.
Elevation 109 ft

Notes

The most scenic parkrun venue I've visited. The river Cray runs through it & up to the historic Five Arch bridge, with a lake beyond the bridge & picturesque weir under it; Wildfowl & excited dogs are in evidence.

Small field (108 finishers on date visited) offers the opportunity for a high finish placing if you're competitively inclined
